In this little tin (7" x 5" x 7") I had kept a neatly rolled up array of strings that were left over from two other quilt projects from several years ago. The fabrics were favorites of mine and I just couldn't just get rid of them. Some of them were as narrow as 1 1/2" and the largest was 2 1/2". These special fabrics were Robyn Pandolph's , a former designer for Moda and I just loved her dusty florals. Ahhh....makes me wish they were still around.
Do you remember Robyn Pandolph? When I went to a quilt shop recently to find a backing to match these fabrics, the gal in the shop asked about my quilt top and I was telling her about Robyn and she didn't know who she was! Now....that makes these fabric pretty vintage along with me! I guess.
Anyways, I decided recently to just pull these strings out and start sewing in a log cabin fashion. There didn't seem to be that many in the tin. I thought I might just get a baby doll quilt out of them, but instead I ended up with a 50" square quilt top.
I am still in love with these fabrics after all these years.
I quilted this with the Azaleas pantograph which gave it a lot of coverage for all those seams but, also, was very floral for my vintage floral fabrics.
You can really see the quilting on the backing. I used a sage-y colored So Fine thread on top and an ivory So Fine thread in the bobbin.
Since I don't have one iota of fabric left, I am going to have to run to the quilt shop and fine a good matching solid for the binding and then I can call this one done!
Hopefully, I can get another of my quilts on the longarm tomorrow.
