MishMash......

Yes, life lately has been a mishmash of activities and projects.

The majority of my time was finishing up the customer quilt that the owner plans on submitting to a couple quilt shows, so I really can't share any more pictures than I already have in the past; but after 21 hours of quilting on this one, it got sent back home to Alabama.

It was finished just in time for a little getaway up North with the family.

That's all of us along with my girlfriend whose cabin we invaded.  This was the first year without our Maggie (golden retriever).  She crossed the rainbow bridge since last year; and we all talked about how much she loved running and hunting  bullfrogs in the water lilies.

The weather was great  super hot, so everyone was busy in the water swimming, kayaking, tubing, fishing, etc.  The one thing we planned on doing though and didn't find the time to do until the one and only day that it rained ALL DAY was to tie dye t-shirts.  Well, we weren't going to let the rain stop us.  We did it in the garage, but it rained so hard that night that water got into the garage and kept our shirts super wet.  So....the last day there, we had to get our shirts laid out in the sunshine so that we could pack them up  dry  before leaving.

Everyone went home with a tie dyed shirt.

We had so much fun doing this that I foresee doing it again in the very near future.  The only change is that we will be doing it on a  SUNNY day so that things get dried quickly.  That way  our colors will be brighter.  It was still a lot of fun.

One of the projects that I took along  to work on while at the cabin (which I never brought out of the bag, rather it got worked on in the car coming and going ) was a knitting project that I had started earlier this Spring/Summer.  I was so close to having it done.

Well, even though it was in the 80s today, I got this one finished and modeled. Now it can be packed away until this Fall when I hope to wear it with a jean jacket.

This shawl is called the "3-color Cashmere Shawl" by Joji Locatelli.  The only time I could work on this was in the air conditioning  as you can imagine working on wool in the heat that we have been having is a bit much.

I did sit down at the sewing machine for a little bit and "made" some fabric for a future project, but just haven't had enough hours in a row to really get anything major accomplished in the sewing room.

We've been to the zoo, some car shows, family gatherings for birthdays, out to dinner and even attended an outdoor DSO concert (Detroit Symphony Orchestra).

So....I'm back home.  I think things have settled down; and I need to get back to the long arm where there is another quilt awaiting some quilting.

Hope you are enjoying your Summer AND getting some quilting done, too.

  1. So many lovelies going on...the colors in your newly completed shawl; textures being created on that quilt top and all the fun of the tie dyed shirts with family. Looks like your summer days are flying much too fast also - wish we could switch the seasons and have shorter winters!
