Ordered a little something.......

You just have to laugh sometimes.  I ordered from Quilted Joy's  APQS store in Louisville, KY and my small package took quite a trip trying to get from there to MI. It went  from there, to here, back there and  finally back here.  Make sense?  I was getting concerned that the post office was never going to get this straight.

See, it's a little package.

....with little doodads for the long arm.  Emory cloth, needles, pigtails, etc.

Anyways, here is the tracking.  I got all excited about getting my package a few days ago and then realized it was headed back to KY.  hmmmm....what was the post office thinking?

I've been busy.....

Well, I didn't mean to be away so long.

I was waiting for my "purple" thread so that I could finish Ella's quilt and that took about a week to get here.  Wouldn't you know, when it came, I realized I had ordered "green" thread instead.
In my head I wanted purple to match the quilt, but they didn't have anything that matched, so I ordered a green to compliment/coordinate with the background fabric.

When I saw the posts about the new Pantone color for 2014 - orchid, then orchid just stuck in my head. Oh well.

I quilted "angel wings" on the quilt and I think it looks so girl-y.  I hope Ella's parents love the quilt when they get it.

I finished the binding today.

So here is the completed quilt with a peek at the backing.

This quilt is sooooo warm.  I enjoyed having it on my lap while I was hand stitching the binding down.  Of course with the arctic freeze we are suffering over a good portion of the US, I think it will be greatly appreciated.

So this will be off in the mail this week as baby Ella was born this past December.

Now....what will I post about from here on out?  I am working on a dual challenge (killing two birds with one stone) and I won't be able to share it for some time.  I guess I am going to have to get out some UFOs and work on them simultaneously so I have something to report.

Well, I hope everyone is warm where it is cold and cool where it is too warm.
Me?  I am praying for an early Spring....very early.  This sub zero weather is just way too cold for me.

Happy quilting.

Pantone 2014 - Radiant Orchid

This is the color for the year.

Could that be why I haven't received my thread for Ella's quilt?  It's about this shade.  I have been waiting for the thread so that I can put the quilt on the long arm.  Maybe there is a rush on this particular color of thread.

Well, maybe my quilt and the new color aren't quite the same.

Oh well, so in the meantime, I put this quilt on the long arm.

These blocks were about 9 years old, so  I put them together so that the quilt top could be used for a practice piece on the long arm.

I chose "Flurry" which is a snowflake panto.  It was a little more difficult than what I have used so far, but hey...I could probably do snowflakes in my sleep about now.

My next step is to bind this quilt and then I will post a picture of the completed quilt.

The more practice I get, the better I will get.

ok...tap, tap, tap.....I'll patiently wait for my thread.  I do have other things I can do while waiting, but it would be nice to get Ella's flannel quilt done while we are experiencing subzero weather.

Update on Ella's quilt

This is such an easy quilt.

I started with sewing the blocks into rows.

As you see, the rows are done on the diagonal.

Sewed all the rows together.

There is some trimming to do; but as I was thinking, once I trim this, it will all be on the bias.  Not a good thing.....

So, I hope you can see, but I took my ruler and drew a line on the cutting line (1/4" from the points of the block....the sewing line).   I needed that reference point so that I could stay stitch close to the cutting line, but not on the 1/4 seam line.

Once it was stay stitched, I trimmed the points off on the line that I drew  as my cutting line.

I now have a stabilized quilt top.

I haven't taken any measurements yet, but I should tell you that if you go to the blog that I mentioned in my last post and from there go to the blog that she found the original pattern from, you will see what the cutting directions are for this quilt.  (Crazy Mom Quilts)

Personally, I cut 18 strips each from the purple and 18 from the print WOF at 3" wide and then sewed two opposite strips together.  From that I subcut the block into a 5 1/2" square.  From there the pattern was laid out.

Now I have to piece my backing and get my binding cut out.

I have ordered Ferrari (green) thread to quilt this in and once I have done that, I will show you a completed quilt.

I am telling you....this is quick and easy

Michigan quilters, take note

Come see us at our first Quilter's to Quilter's sale.   Don't know what that is?  Well, it will be 28 quilters/vendors selling...
