My projects and purchases while at retreat......

Well, it is one thing to share everyone else's projects from retreat, but I did do some quilting AND purchasing while there, too.

I bought this 108" backing for the "turning twenty?" Christmas quilt that I put together while in my cast (blocks were made a long, long time ago).

.....and you are very lucky....I took out this elephant  minkee to show you; otherwise it is staying in its bag until I am brave enough to take it out and work on it.  Why did I buy it? Especially when I have two other pieces that I bought 9 years ago..... yes.... I said 9 years ago when I was expecting my first grandchild.  The elephants are supposed to be for my fourth grandchild....maybe.  Any suggestions on how to keep down the fuzz factor when working on it?,,,or even taking it out of its bag?

So clockwise from the elephant minkee....I purchased this adorable gray animal print and a coordinating dot for another baby quilt . The black and white is for a backing for my black/white/yellow quilt.  If you noticed, there is a bottle of a copper-y colored Liquitex paint that I am going to use to cover the signatures on the back of the  wedding quilt (there was a divorce) so that I can give the quilt back to my son.  Then I just had to buy this gray chevron and it might just be a backing for another baby quilt that I have in mind.  My daughter is doing her baby room in gray with yellow (or maybe purple) accents depending on the gender of the baby.

Then there were the gifts from my roomie.

Riley Blake mini roll of "dots"!!!, some Bella solids, an adorable sewing kit (may change that to a pill bottle for the purse, note pad and some Good n Plentys.  Oops....spilled some.  Guess I will have to eat those.

My son and his future bride chose this quilt to be their wedding quilt.  I believe it is a Denise Schmidt quilt that they found in a local department store catalog.

They chose grays and oranges for their quilt and I had all the strips  (11 yards worth) all cut out before I broke my arm).  So, at retreat I started sewing them together in sections.

Now it is time to start cutting up those sections and getting this quilt top together.

I just purchases this fabric for the backing.

I love the little bird in the tree.

Now for me....I have finally started the Gathering Baskets quilt.

I got two of the baskets put together other than the handles (they are just freezer paper right now).  I don't know if you can see it, but I used button head pins to pin down the freezer paper and everyone raved about the buttons, so I may just have to sew buttons on the finished quilt because I thought they looked cute here, too.

This whole quilt is cut out, so I am ready to go.

I guess it is time to get busy now.

So....happy quilting everyone.

  2. Oh my - 11 yards you say!! That is a lot of cutting!! You have so many fun projects on your plate. Love the baskets so much.
I have 2 baby quilts to make and am considering using minkee for the backs - also kind of nervous about how to handle it best. Maybe someone has some info to share??

  4. You must be making u for lost time after breaking your arm. Loving everything going on in the sewing department at your place. I have no idea about minkee, it scares me.

  5. If your elephant fabric is double sided - which I sort of think it is - all you need to do is round the edges and then sew a minky binding on hit - just zig zag it on and you don't even need to turn under the edges.
